1952 Republican National Convention

The 1952 Republican National Convention was held in Chicago, Cook County, from 7 July to 11 July and nominated the popular general and war hero Dwight David Eisenhower also known as "Ike" for president and the anti-communist crusading senator from California Richard Milhous Nixon also known as "Tricky Dick" for vice president.

The Republican platform pledged to end the unpopular war in Korea, to fire all "the loafers and incompetents" at the State Department and to bring an end to ´"Communist Subversion" in the United States.

Other candidates were the former governor of Minnesota Harold E Stassen , Ohio Senator Robert A Taft (also known as "Mr Republican") and California Congressman Thomas Werdel .
