  H   H
  C = C - C = O
  H       OH

(which is sometimes abbreviated as CH2=CHCOOH). It is a carboxylic acid, a colorless liquid with an acrid odor. Acrylic acid and its esters, the acrylates, are used in the manufacture of various plastics and occur in floor polishs and paints. Acrylic acid is produced from propylene, a gas that is a byproduct of oil refineries.

The CAS number of acrylic acid is 79-10-7.
