Anglo-Iraqi Treaty (1930)

The Anglo-Iraqi Treaty of 1930, between the United Kingdom and Iraq, was based upon an earlier treaty (1922) but took into account Iraq's increased importance given the oil finds of 1927.

Britain occupied Iraq at this time under a mandate from the League of Nations. The 1930 treaty provided for Iraq's independence rwo years later, but allowed for the continued presence of British troops thereafter.
