Augustus Octavius Bacon

Augustus Octavius Bacon (1839 - 1914) was a U.S. political figure. He was a United States Senator from Georgia from 1895 to 1914. He was a Democrat and held several committee chairmanships. Previously he was a soldier in the army of the Confederate States of America during the United States Civil War, and then, after Georgia returned to the United States, he served in the Georgia State House of Representatives from 1871 to 1888, for much of that time as House speaker. He served as the president pro tempore of the Senate in 1912 and 1913. He was born in Bryan County, Georgia and died in Washington, D.C..
