Behentrimonium chloride, also known as docosanyl trimethylammonium chloride or BTAC-228, is an irritating, toxic, and slightly flammable yellow waxlike organic compound with chemical formula ( CH2)21()( CH3)3 and CAS number 17301-53-0, used as an antistatic agent and a disinfectant. It is commonly found in cosmetics such as conditioners, hair dye, and mousse , and also in detergents. In water treatment, it acts as a algaecide .
