Cen X-3 (the third X-ray source discovered in the constellation Centaurus) was discovered in 1971 during observations with the Uhuru satellite. The system is a binary X-ray pulsar with a pulse period of 4.84 s, in which the neutron star is eclipsed by its O6.5 giant companion every 2.09 d.
