Courchevel is the name of a ski area located in the Savoie region of the French Alps, and part of Les Trois Vallées.
Courchevel can also refer to the towns of Courchevel 1550, Courchevel 1650, and Courchevel 1850, which are named for their altitudes in metres. The towns are said to become more exclusive and/or elegant as one climbs higher up the mountain, most likely because property values near the town of 1850 are significantly higher than those at 1650 or 1550.
The town of 1550 attracts mainly families, whereas 1650 has a young, party atmosphere and 1850 is enshrouded with five-star appointments, including Michelin starred restaurants such as La Saulire (named for one of the peaks overlooking the town) and extravagant private chalets.
