Dale T. Mortensen

Dale T. Mortensen (b. Feb. 2, 1939) is an American economist. He received his B.A. in economics from Willamette University and his Ph.D. in Economics from Carnegie Mellon University. He has been on the faculty of Northwestern University since 1965.

His research focus has been on labor economics, macroeconomics and economic theory. Mortensen is perhaps most famous for his pioneering work and contributions to the theory of job search and search unemployment. He has extended the insight from this work to study labor turnover, research and development, personal relationships, and labor reallocation.
