Daniel Vettori

Daniel Luca Vettori (born 27 January 1979, Auckland, New Zealand) is a slow left-arm orthodox spinner who currently plays for the New Zealand cricket team. He is the youngest player to represent New Zealand in Tests, having made his debut in 1996/97 at the age of 18.

Vettori is known for his flight and guile rather than prodigious turn or pinpoint accuracy. His bowling has reaped him 188 Test wickets (as of 2004) and 134 ODI wickets at an average of 34-35, although this is decreasing. His batting average in Tests is only 20, despite a century (137*) against Pakistan in 2003, and several half-centuries. His career was in jeopardy in 2002 with a back injury, but he recovered to play a major role in New Zealand's victory in the 2004 Tri-Series with England and the West Indies in England.
