Depth conversion

Depth conversion is a process which brings together the drilling results of velocity measurements made in oil and gas wells, and derives a three dimensional velocity field which is used to convert the seismic reflection times to depth. This process can also integrate other sources of velocity information, for example RMS. stacking velocities which are derived from a study of the seismic reflection data.

Depth conversion produces a map such as this one, this is a sub surface map at approximately 3000m below sea level, showing the outline of an oilfiled in red.
