Der Tagesspiegel

Der Tagesspiegel ("The Daily Mirror"; motto: "rerum cognoscere causas", or "to know the causes of things") is a liberal German daily newspaper. Founded on 27 September 1945, the Tagesspiegel is based in West Berlin, only a short distance from the former location of the Berlin Wall. It is the only major newspaper in the capital to have increased its circulation—now 148,000—since re-unification. Despite this, it is still associated with the western half of the city, due to the 1948 blockade having stopped its circulation in East Berlin and Brandenburg. The paper has recently redesigned, introducing more color and a clearer typeface. It is owned by Verlag der Tagesspiegel GmbH, and associated with the Wall Street Journal.
