Deterrence

Deterrence is a means of controlling a person's behavior through negative motivational influences, namely fear of punishment. It is the primary criminological theory shaping the United States legal system. At the military level, the same principle has become known as the Deterrence theory.

Deterrence is also a 1999 movie by director Rod Lurie.
