Donnybrook, Dublin

(Redirected from Donnybrook)
Donnybrook has several other meanings, see Donnybrook (disambiguation).

Donnybrook (Irish Domhnach Broc, meaning Church of [Saint] Broc) is a district of Dublin, Ireland. It is situated on the southside of the city, in the Dublin 4 postal district.

Donnybrook is home to the Irish state broadcaster RTÉ and University College Dublin.

It is the location of Ailesbury Road and Shrewsbury Road, the two most expensive streets in an Irish edition of the Monopoly game.

It was once the location of Donnybrook Fair, a horse fair which was notorious for drunkeness and violent disorder. This gave rise to the word donnybrook, meaning a brawl or fracas. These days, there is little trace of this disreputable past, and Donnybrook is one of the wealthiest suburbs of Dublin. The only reminder of this aspect of its history is a supermarket called Donnybrook Fair on the main street.
