The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is a molecular biology research institution supported by 17 European countries. The EMBL was created in 1974 and has laboratories in Heidelberg (Germany), Hamburg (Germany), Grenoble (France) and Hinxton (UK), and an external Research Programme in Monterotondo , Italy.
