Earmuffs

Earmuffs are objects designed to cover a person's ears for protection. They consist of a plastic (or metal) loop that fits over the top of the head. There are two pads on the end that cover the ears. They come in two basic kinds:

Thermal earmuffs: Thermal earmuffs are worn in winter to keep a person's ears warm.

Audio earmuffs: Shaped like audio earmuffs, these are worn as hearing protection. An alternate form of these are pads that clip onto the sides of hard hats, for use on construction sites.

Thermal earmuffs were invented by Maine resident Chester Greenwood.
