Ectopia

Ectopia is a displacement or malposition of an organ of the body. Most ectopia are congenital but some may happen later in life.

Types of ectopia

  • Ectopia lentis - displacement of the crystalline lens of the eye
  • Ectopia cordis - displacement of the heart outside the body during foetal development
  • Crossed renal ectopia - both kidneys on the same side of the body
