Edward Miliband (born 1969) is a British economist. He is currently chairman of the Treasury's Council of Economic Advisers , which directs the UK's long-term economic planning.
He was educated at Oxford. After a brief career in television journalism, he became a speechwriter and researcher for Labour politician Harriet Harman in 1993, and then Shadow Chancellor Gordon Brown the following year. He has worked in an economic capacity since, although in 2003-4, he spent a year's sabbatical at Harvard University, as a visiting lecturer in government.
He is the younger brother of the MP and Cabinet Office Minister David Miliband, and the son of Marxist Ralph Miliband . Like his brother, he is often regarded as a rising star of the Labour Party, although he has not yet entered Parliament.
