Federally funded research and development center

Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs) conduct research for the federal government. They are administered by universities and corporations.

Well-known ones include:

• Jet Propulsion Laboratory, administered by Caltech for NASA
• Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, administered by the University of California for the DOE
• Los Alamos National Laboratory, administered by the University of California for the DOE
• Lincoln Laboratory, administered by Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the USAF
• Center for Naval Analyses

Many of the laboratories categorized by the DOE as a national laboratory are also FFRDCs.
