Fieldbus

Fieldbus refers to a standard for fieldbus control systems developed and administered by the Fieldbus Foundation. It is officially known as Foundation Fieldbus. It was originally intended as a replacement for the 4-20 ma standard, but many delays in its development have prevented its large scale use, and has allowed other technologies such as Modbus, Profibus, and industrial ethernet to gain large installed bases. Foundation fieldbus was developed over a period of many years by the Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society, or ISA, as SP50. It is still not complete.
