Gangetic Plains

(Redirected from Gangetic plains)

The Gangetic Plains are the part of the Ganges River (or River Ganga) that flows across India's northern plains.

The River Ganga has been depositing the natural alluvial soil in these flood plains for millennia. As a result of this process of natural fertilisation, the Gangetic Plains are numbered among the most bountiful agricultural areas of the world.

The Gangetic Plains are also known as "the food bowl of India".
