Hematemesis

Hematemesis or haematemesis is the vomiting of fresh red blood. The source is generally the upper gastrointestinal tract. It can easily be confused with hemoptysis (coughing up blood) by patients.

Causes can be: peptic ulcer and variceal hemorrhage (from esophageal varices).
