Hillwalking

Hillwalking or fellwalking is the recreational practice of hiking in mountainous terrain.

While the primary activity is walking, an outing may also involve stretches of rougher terrain that require different skills. Many hill-walkers become proficient in scrambling and some even carry basic climbing equipment. Another skill often involved is that of navigation, especially in conditions of poor visibility.

There is not always a clear-cut distinction between hillwalking and mountaineering, but the latter term is typically used to describe more adventurous activities, often at higher altitudes.
