Iklena

Iklena or Iklaina (Greek: Ίκλαινα) is a historic village in the province of Pylia , prefecture of Messenia, Greece. Approximately 14 km to the northeast of the modern town of Pylos and 2 km NE of GR-9 (Pyrgos - Kyparissia - Pylos - Methoni). Important archaeological remains of the Late Bronze Age (ca. 1600-1100 BC) period have been brought to light through excavations and surface survey by the Athens Archaeological Society in the 1950s and by the University of Missouri-St. Louis between 1999 and 2004. Other periods represented are the Late Classical and the Byzantine.
