Lilliput was a small-format British magazine of humour, short stories and the arts, founded in 1937 by the photojournalist Stefan Lorant ; the first issue came out in July. It was sold shortly after to Edward Hulton, and then editorship was taken over by Tom Hopkinson (1940). The first 147 issues (until late 1949) had covers illustrated by Walter Trier ; each design employed a man, a woman, and a dog. Contributors included Bill Brandt, Brassaļ, Aleister Crowley, Robert Doisneau, C. S. Forester, John Glashan, Robert Graves, Michael Heath, Nancy Mitford, V. S. Pritchett and Ronald Searle. From August 1960 it was merged within Men Only (not yet pornographic).
