Lovett College is one of the nine residential colleges at Rice University.
Built during the late 1960's, Lovett's striking architecture leads many to compare it to a giant toaster. In an homage to Communism, the men who comprised the first class decided to name the college government the Central Committee. In an homage to their favorite drink, they designed the Lovett College crest to resemble the logo of a certain beer. And in honor of nothing, they chose to make the official college cheer a classic vulgar rhyming poem using all the dirtiest words in the English language.
After the college went co-ed by switching half its students with Jones college, things calmed down a little bit. By 1995, Lovett was called the "college of love" in the Rice Thresher.
Lovett is known for the grating that surrounds the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors, which is often climbed by drunken seniors. It is also known as the home of Casino Party , in which students dress in costumes to match a theme, dance, and gamble with fake money. Lovett used to have a fall party called Getcheroxoff, in which students would watch pornographic movies. Lovett was also famous for its dominance of Beer-Bike in the 80's, a halcyon time which all alumni fondly remember, whether they were students then or not. Another important Lovett tradition is the Undergrounds, which takes place in the Lovett basement (called Lyle's), where students play music and drink coffee.
