Madam Justice Marie Deschamps, LL.L. , LL.M., born in Repentigny, Quebec on October 2, 1952, is a Canadian jurist. She is the daughter of Jean Deschamps and Gisèle Gagnon and has two children. She studied at the University of Montreal, LL.L., 1974, and at McGill University, LL.M., 1983. She was called to the Quebec Bar Association in 1975 and practised law with Martineau, Walker, 1975-76; Sylvestre & Matte, 1976-77; Rouleau, Rumanek & Sirois, 1977-80, and Byers Casgrain, 1980-90. She is a member of the board of the University of Montréal, 1989-1991; member of the board of directors of the University of Montréal Alumni Association, 1986-91; member of the advisory committee on reform of the Bankruptcy Act , 1986 and of the Competition Tribunal advisory council, 1986-90.
She took part in the University of Montreal moot courts and in the Quebec Bar's advocacy seminars and was appointed to the Quebec Superior Court in Montreal on March 29, 1990. She was appointed to the Quebec Court of Appeal on May 6, 1992 and to the Supreme Court of Canada on August 7, 2002.
