Neelie Kroes

Neelie Kroes (born July 19, 1941) is a Dutch politician (VVD).

She was born in Rotterdam. From 1982 to 1989, she was minister for transport in the government of Ruud Lubbers.

She is the EU-Commissioner for Competition in the Barroso commission for the term starting on November 1, 2004. Her nomination to this office was heavily criticized because of her links with big business and unproven involvement in shady arms deals.

As a university president, she awarded a honorary doctorate to Bill Gates.
