Newhaven is a town in the county of East Sussex in England. It is a seaport, and a ferry crosses the English Channel to Dieppe in Normandy. The River Ouse, Sussex joins the sea here. The town is defended by Newhaven Fort

Newhaven used to be named Meeching until the 16th Century when a great storm diverted the course of the Sussex Ouse so forming a NewHaven.
