Orange Juice was a Scottish post punk band active in the early 1980s. Founded in Glasgow by art students, some have described them as both seminal creator and a time bomb of competing vanities.
Initially named The Nu-Sonics, Orange Juice were the vehicle for singer-songwriter, Edwyn Collins. Or so Edwyn thought. In fact this was the cause of the demise of the group - Edwyn's intransigence about decision making and directions clashing with the ambitions and intransigence of other members (particularly David McClymont).
Always highly tendentious and caustic in content and approach, Orange Juice sounded like pop razor blades. Lyrics filled with in-jokes, sarcasm and acerbity, were seamlessly married with jangling guitar-drums-bass post-pop.
While the group has long dispersed, members remain active in their separate and diverse fields (including travel writing).
At least two greatest hits albums are available.
