Philip Allen, Baron Allen of Abbeydale

Philip Allen, Baron Allen of Abbeydale CB KCB GCB (8 July 1912— ) was a British civil servant.

Allen joined the Home Office in 1934. He served in the Offices of the War Cabinet 1943-44, then returned as Deputy Secretary to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government 1955-60. He became Deputy Under-Secretary of State, Home Office 1960-62; Second Secretary, HM Treasury 1963-66; then Permanent Under-Secretary of State, Home Office 1966-72.

Allen was created a life peer as Baron Allen of Abbeydale of the City of Sheffield in 1976. He sits in the House of Lords as a crossbencher.

Allen was married to his late wife, Marjorie, for 64 years.
