• The single seed in the center of a certain fruits is called a pit in American English (stone in Commonwealth English). Fruits containing such seeds include the cherry, peach, plum, olive, avocado and others.
• The data in a compact disc is encoded as a spiral track of nanometer-scale pits.
• The front ensemble or pit is the stationary percussion section of a marching band or drum corps.
