Polish Academy of Sciences

The Polish Academy of Sciences (Polish: Polska Akademia Nauk, often abbreviated as PAN), is a Polish state scientific institution founded in 1952 from the merger of older, preexisting scientific societies, mainly the Polish Academy of Skills (Polska Akademia Umiejętności, PAU).

PAN has functioned as a learned society acting through an elected corporation of top scholars and research organizations. It has also become a major scientific advisory body through its scientific committees.
