Pumpkin pie

Pumpkin pie is a traditional American dessert, usually made in the late autumn and early winter, especially for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The pie consists of a pumpkin based custard baked in a single pie shell. It has no top crust. The pie is generally flavored with nutmeg, and traditionally served with whipped cream. Though some cooks make this pie from scratch, it is more common to buy canned pumpkin and follow the directions on the back of the can.
