Quinnipiac University is a private four-year university in Hamden, Connecticut, just north of New Haven. It has over 63 programs of study in Communications, Health Sciences, Business, Liberal Arts, and Law, including a very well regarded program in physical therapy.
History
Quinnipiac University, originally known as the Connecticut College of Commerce , was founded in 1929 by Samuel W. Tator as a small business college awarding associate's degrees. It was renamed Quinnipiac College in 1951, in honor of a the Quinnipiack indian tribe who inhabited the Greater New Haven area during the 17th-19th centuries. In 1952 Quinnipiac assumed administrative control of Larson College a private women's college. In 1966 Quinnipiac moved to its current location in Hamden, Connecticut. In 1995, the American Bar Association fully accredited Quinnipiac to award the Juris Doctor degree through the Quinnipiac University School of Law and the Quinnipiac School of Law Center was dedicated later that year. As of July 1, 2000 the school changed its name again to Quinnipiac University.
Admissions
For the class of 2008, Quinnipiac received 10,625 applications, and admitted 55% of them. 1320 (23%) of them enrolled. Most applicants were from Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and New Jersey. The class of 2008 is 61% Female and 39% Male. 70% of students receive financial aid.
