Radio France was formed in 1975 after the spliting of the The Office de Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française (ORTF).
Radio France is a French public service broadcasting corporation that has two principal missions:
- To conceive and broadcast the programs of French public radios in metropolitan France
- To assure the management and the development of the following orchestras and choirs:
- the Orchestre National of France
- the Orchestre philharmonique de Radiofrance (Radiofrance Philharmonic orchestra)
- The Chœur de Radiofrance
- The maîtrise de Radiofrance
Radiofrance has seven major national stations, France Inter [1] (music, news and entertainment),
France Info [2] (news), France Culture [3] (culture), France Musiques [4] (classical music and jazz),France Bleu [5] (regional stations network), FIP [6] (music), Le Mouv' [7] (pop music).
The French international public station Radio France Internationale [8] is independent from Radiofrance since 1983.
Its seat is the Maison de Radiofrance or Maison de la Radio, a round building situated in the XVIe arrondissement of Paris. The house was conceived by Henri Bernard and inaugurated in December 1963 by President Charles de Gaulle. Besides the central services of Radio France and the services and studios of several of its chains, the Maison houses a museum of radio, television and their recording techniques.
