Sanford Jackson was born in Port Arthur, now Thunder Bay, Ontario. His uncle Clarence Hugh Jackson was mayor of Fort William, Ontario 1904. He graduated from the University of Toronto in chemical engineering and pathological chemistry. Research biochemist and biochemist-in-chief Toronto Hospital for Sick Children 1937-1974. Founding member Canadian Society of Clinical Chemists and the Ontario Society of Clinical Chemists. Invented the bilirubinometer which measures the amount of bilirubin in blood. He died in Toronto 4 Sept 2000 age 91.
