The Soft Bulletin

The Soft Bulletin was an album released by The Flaming Lips on June 22, 1999 (see 1999 in music). The album was considered to mark a change in course for the band, with somewhat more accessible music (their previous album, 1997's Zaireeka, was a quadruple album meant to be played on four separate stereo systems simultaneously) and lyrics that were more serious and thoughtful in content, perhaps most notably in the song "Waitin' for a Superman". The Flaming Lips at this time consisted of Wayne Coyne, songwriting, vocals, and guitar; Michael Ivins, bass and vocals; and Steven Drozd, drums.
